The longest river on the planet, the Nile flows from the heart of a continent uniting mountain, jungle, marsh and desert. But for such a huge and powerful river, the Nile has been reluctant to give up its secrets. The Ancient Egyptians thought it was magical – a gift of the gods, whilst obsessive Victorian explorers endured unimaginable hardships in their search for its source. Nile reveals the true nature of the river and the reasons behind its magic – a magnificent and diverse mosaic of strange places and fascinating animals, stretching far back into some of the remotest corners of Africa.

A Japanese journalist in Afghanistan, whose wife dies in an explosion, tries to overcome his sorrows and goes to Egypt on a mission to cover the discovery of a tomb in the Valley of the Kings. As a gang tracks him down for locating the tomb, he falls in love with the girlfriend of the gang's boss who looks like his wife.

In 1885, while his regiment is sent to the Sudan to battle the rebellious Dervish tribes, British Lieutenant Harry Faversham resigns his officer's commission in order to remain with his fiancée Mary Burroughs in England. His friends and fellow officers John Durrance, Peter Burroughs and Tom Willoughby brand him a coward and present him with the white feathers of cowardice. His fiancée, Mary, adds a fourth feather and breaks off their engagement. However, former Lieutenant Faversham decides to regain his honor by fighting in the Sudan incognito.

The Nile's source was the last great mystery for European explorers in the 19th century. The story of its discovery is one of heroism in the service of faith, greed, and obsession.

Renegotiating the representational paradigm of nationhood the film draws a heterogeneous picture of Egyptian society as well as Soviet workers as they embarked on the momentous dam enterprise. The films presents a vision of a nation deep rooted in unity as well as diversity. The films projection of a renewed imagining of the nation inadvertently acknowledges a new and nuanced understanding of its goals, political objectives, and how these impact the personal within it.
